Hybrid electric vehicle · Hybrid
A petrol engine works with an electric motor and a small battery. The battery charges itself as you drive and brake, so you never plug in.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle · Plug-in hybrid
A larger battery you charge from a power point or charger, plus a petrol engine. Many everyday trips can be driven on electricity alone.
Battery electric vehicle · Electric
Runs on electricity only, from a battery you charge at home, at work or at a public charger. No petrol engine and no fuel stops.
Your daily driving, overnight parking, charging access and longer trips decide which type suits you best. There is no single right answer: an electric vehicle suits some drivers very well, a plug-in hybrid suits others, and a hybrid suits people who would rather not plug in at all.
